Dionne Quintuplets Over seventy years ago the world was amazed by the birth of the Dionne Quintuplets on May 28, 1934, in nearby Corbeil. This amazement quickly turned to love for the five identical tiny girls born to Oliva and Elzire Dionne. The Quint's combined weight at birth was only 13lbs. 5ozs. and they had to be kept in incubators for the first month of their lives. Their lungs were so small that diluted doses of rum were required daily to help the Quints breath properly. It was a one in 57 million chance of giving birth to identical quintuplets and even less chance of them surviving, but the Dionne Quints did.

Plan your course North - this eastern getaway is a passage to unlimited fun!

Water activities Ridgewood Cottages in Temagami: Swimming. Boating. Fishing. Water skiing. Scuba diving. Sailing. Windsurfing. Kayaking.

Northeastern Ontario is a dream destination with a variety of outdoor activities for all ages. Sandy beaches, crystal-clear lakes, scenic waterways, and excellent fishing all await boaters visiting this region. An added benefit is that big-city amenities are never too far away - commercial centres such as Sudbury, North Bay, and Ottawa are easily accessible and lead to a plethora of services and activities.

Temagami Located at the region's northwestern end, Temagami offers a true northern experience. In fact, some of the world's oldest rock has surfaced in the region and many artifacts and stone drawings, which date as far back as 6000 B.C., have been discovered here.

While it boasts 2,560 kilometers of interconnecting canoe routes that welcomes thousands of outdoor enthusiasts per season, the area easily accommodates sailors and power boaters looking to cruise among its white pine forests, and clear, blue waters. Anchorages abound and the fishing is second-to-none. Several other activities are enjoyed here as well such as windsurfing, kayaking, diving and mountain biking.

On land, Temagami is just as accommodating. Those with a boat in tow can easily access the area via Highway 11 and there are several inns, resorts, lodges and campgrounds. There are two well-equipped marinas to meet your every need as both feature transient docking, shorepower, launch ramps, fuel and array of other services.

Boaters may want to plan a visit in peak summer and checkout some of Temagami's exciting events. There's the annual commemorative Canada Day Celebrations at Temagami's waterfront July 1. Or come later in the month for the Lions Steak Fry on July 21 and the Temagami Lakes Association Dock Sale, Auction and Flea Market on the 28th. In August, be sure not to miss the Blueberry Festival on the 8th or the popular Pow Wow a week later.

Activities such as fishing and canoeing are favorite pastimes, yet the area is always open to power boaters and sailors.

But no matter when you visit, of special interest is Finlayson Point Provincial Park, which is just south of Temagami's business centre. There are 114 campsites, a comfort station, children's playground, beaches, boat launching and dockage.

Make the most of your summer - take a northern Ontario fishing trip!
